I was in a travel advisory meeting the other day. The group went around the table to talk about the good, welcome travel boom coupled with the not-so-good stress of flight cancellations and staff shortages across the industry. When John’s turn to speak came - he said ‘We’re all busy and have been keeping up the best we can during this resurgence, but I’ve recently started to take better care of myself. I’ve been exercising more and eating better. I lost some weight and have been practicing ways to stay happy.’
I thought that was such a refreshing take amidst the hectic checklists and heaps of emails we have to reply to, especially since John was one of the group’s top and busiest agents.
It’s a trying time being a travel agent today. Seems like every trip worth planning is like climbing a mountain, quickly leading to fatigue and burnout. John’s insight was a good reminder to be mindful and amidst all the busyness, to try and schedule some time to take a step back and take care of oneself.
After all, this is the same outcome our clients often want from our expertise - to travel places (ideally hassle-free) and have experiences that let them take a step back and better oneself. I hope John’s brief take is helpful to you as it was for me.
